Slow Mo Mango Munchers

Somehow, even the silliest things look interesting in slow motion.

It doesn't hurt that the backing track is one of my favourite pieces of music ... the "Flower Duet" from Lakme by Delibes.

Of course, I'm no opera fan ... I first heard that duet as the accompaniment to a hot lesbian scene between Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon in "The Hunger" :-).

Houdini

I seem to be seeing a lot of references to Harry Houdini recently. I can only assume it's because of the film Death Defying Acts being in cinemas.

I saw a short trailer for Wall-E a while back and it looked vaguely interesting.

This new trailer for the upcoming Ironman movie looks fantastic ... if you like sci-fi and special effects as much as I do :-).

Juno

I went to see a wonderful film this afternoon.

Juno is a funny, clever and poignant comedy, starring a young lady named Ellen Page who I didn't think I'd seen before.

Now, I discover that she played a character named Shadowcat in X-Men: The Last Stand. She's also played 22 other roles at last count. I'll definitely be checking some of them out!

Anyway, I unreservedly recommend Juno. It even has a good soundtrack that includes Mott The Hoople, who I've not heard for over 25 years!

Untraceable

I can't wait for Untraceable to make it to Australia.

If the trailer is any indication, it looks to be excellent.

It links two of my (many) obsessions ... serial killers and the internet. Now, if the script writers were so kind as to have some ubergeek use Category Theory to help the FBI track down the killer, I'll be in Nirvana :-).



Update: I just checked the release dates section at Your Movies ... it's not scheduled to arrive here until April 17th!

Cloverfield

I went to see Cloverfield today.

It's sort of like The Blair Witch Project meets sci-fi, but much better executed.

The camera jumping all over the place is a bit nauseating, but if you can get through the first fifteen minutes you'll find the technique is used to good effect.

I wouldn't say it's a must see, but I'd definitely recommend it if you like interesting sci-fi.
